Here’s The Deal
We know that head lice can bring panic and anxiety to any family that deals with it! We understand the frustration parents have as well as the schools.
Head lice is now 2nd to the common cold in the entire US. in elementary aged school children and younger… and is becoming more rampant with the older kids too, because it is pesticide resistant like many ancient bugs are now.
How can we help? We can set minds at ease by educating the parents and schools.
Kids no longer have to go home in many public schools with head lice because the parents can’t get rid of it and the school can not force the parents to treat their children a certain way for head lice. It is not considered a health hazard with the American Association of Pediatrics. Parents are responsible for checking and treating their own children for head lice so education is the best way to help. Sometimes schools do things like family science night or a principal’s coffee talk. That is a great way to reach the parents and teachers to educate them about human head lice.
People sometimes don’t realize when they are self-treating, if there are any lice and/or nits left in the hair, their own kids are continuing to spread it to other kids. It’s hard to get it all out especially with the over-the-counter combs and products!
Schools and camps are frustrated tool It’s not the responsibility of the school or camp to fix this.
Kids can get lice anywhere – playing with neighborhood friends, sports, theme parks, youth groups, school friends taking selfies with heads touching, etc.. People also don’t understand that the lice are increasingly resistant to pesticides, and if ALL of the nits are not physically removed, they will continue to hatch into baby bugs.

> Head lice is now 2nd to the common cold in the entire U.S. in elementary aged school children and younger… and is becoming more rampant with the older kids too, because it is pesticide resistant like many ancient bugs are now.
> Schools and camps are frustrated too! It’s not the responsibility of the school or camp to fix this.
> It is the legal responsibility of the parent to decide how to check their own children for lice. It is not the school’s responsibility to check their kids for lice. And …It doesn’t run around a place. It is spread from head to head contact. The school can not stop kids from touching other kid’s heads – hugging, whispering in ears, leaning in too close, having sleepovers, sharing brushes, etc.
> Head lice is 2nd to the common cold in the entire U.S. in elementary and younger and that WHEREVER there are kids, there will be lice – including the park, school, church, sports, theme park etc. It is becoming more rampant in older kids now too – taking selfies, sleepovers, etc. Lice is mostly spread by head to head contact.
> The school can NOT legally make a parent use a professional head lice service. Just like when a kid gets sick, the parent will decide how to treat their own child.
